Persecuted for Christ

Imagine for a moment that you are worshiping in your local church or synagogue.
What would you do if during your worship service masked men stormed the building with weapons? - They kick down the doors, flip over the altars and round up everyone in the building. Forced to your knees you watch as they knock the pastor unconscious by cracking his skull with the butt of their rifle. The women are gathered, beaten and raped before being executed and their bodies heaped into a pile while all the men watch in horror on their knees, crying, praying, screaming out for mercy. A man jumps to his feet and attempts a brave rescue but is quickly overpowered and shot to death. These terrorists stand at the end of the line of kneeling men, placing the gun to their head they demand a rejection of Christ. If you refuse to reject Him, they blow your brains out. If you reject Him, they cut your tongue out so that you can never confess Him again. They continue down the line... the blood of the man next to you splatters against your cheek and drips down your neck. It's your turn, the barrel is jabbing you in the back of your head.... WHAT DO YOU DO?
Sounds barbaric and unthinkable doesn't it? Does it make you sick to even consider? You might even say that it's impossible - that something like this would never happen here in the U.S. - and you're probably right. Did you know the Bible is illegal in at least 52 countries around the globe? Did you know there are places where someone can be arrested simply for mentioning the name of Jesus? Did you know there are places on earth where Christians have to stay a secret, smuggle in Bibles and worship in underground churches? Did you know there are places where Christians are tortured, raped, mutilated and murdered all because of their faith? These types of horror stories happen to believers all around the world but never here in America - certainly not to this extreme. Don't get me wrong I would never wish these horrors on anyone, however they DO happen to our brothers and sisters in Christ - we are just so far removed we don't even think about it. It's an out-of-sight, out-of-mind situation. The rare occasions when you do think about it, it's probably due to a missionary or guest speaker visiting your church, trying to raise awareness - while your thoughts are something along the lines of "Better them than me, I'm so blessed to live in America." But are you? Is a lack of persecution a sign that you are blessed? What does Jesus have to say?
John 15:18-20“If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you. Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you.
Matthew 5:10-12
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven.
True blessing is found in persecution. Jesus said it Himself. We are to be happy and rejoice during times of hardship and persecution because a great reward awaits in Heaven.
Americans have been so free of any real persecution that we have become weak and lazy. The passion and zeal to share our faith has waned considerably. I have to consider as well that perhaps our passion has waned because we are not persecuted and perhaps we are not persecuted because we have no passion. It's been a whirlpool that has sucked the American church down into lukewarm laziness. We worship in our gigantic multi-million dollar church buildings, we drive to services in our $30,000 dollar vehicles, we head home to our $150,000 dollar houses, and sit down in our $1,000 lazy-boy reclining chair. Thoughts of the persecution around the world occur maybe once a year, we have a moment of pity, say a prayer... then dwell on how "blessed" we are.
Don't forget Jesus' words - "If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you."By Jesus' words it stands to reason that if you are not being persecuted then perhaps you're not pursuing Him. If life is easy for you and you consider yourself "blessed" then perhaps you're missing out on something BIG. We have been called out of this world. We have been called to reject this world and to live a life that reflects our choice of rejection towards this world. The natural law of the universe as decreed by King Jesus is that the moment you separate from this world, the world HATES you! Are you hated by the world?
Ephesians 5:8-9, 13For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true... But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them
This is why the world hates us! When we live for Jesus, we shine His light in the darkness; the light we shine exposes the evil around us. The dark world wants to continue in it's evil ways so the world seeks to eradicate the light. The world tries to snuff us out. The brighter your light shines, the easier it is for the world to pick you out in the darkness and attack you. But if your light dims, you begin to blend into the darkness of this world and the world persecutes you less because it can hardly tell you apart from it's own darkness.
So let your light shine bright! Separate fully from this world and reject everything it offers. Then welcome the persecution that is guaranteed to come - there is a great reward waiting for you in God's kingdom.

Independence Day

My favorite holiday. Hot air, sunshine, barbeque's. I love today.
It's perfect weather also. I can hear the wind blowing gently, rustling the leaves.
The skies are sapphire blue with a hint of cloud marbling. It is days like this that really give me a glimpse of Heaven. It's a drop of kool-aid on the tongue when I know an ice cold pitcher full is waiting in the kitchen. It's just a sliver of what truly awaits Gods children.

Although we celebrate Independence Day as the day we became a new country, separated from England, the true Independence Day came 2000 years ago on the cross, when Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice in our place. He freed us from the tyranny of sin. He freed us from the clutches of Hell.

Take time to stop and pray today, to thank God for your true Independence.

Becoming like God

Our spirits currently dwell in broken down, sin-riddled bodies.
The human mind deteriorates with age, the muscles and bones weaken and our skin loses elastin which causes wrinkles and skin to droop. Our hearing declines, our eye-sight blurs. If we're lucky, we'll live to see 80; though the average life-span is just above 70.

This was never Gods intention. The reason for mans declining health begins in the garden of Eden. Adam and Eve disobeyed Gods command, the punishment of which was death.
Death of the body and the spirit. Although their bodies did not die in that moment, their spirits did and their bodies immediately began the dying process. This death from sin also caused separation between us and God.

This was not the end however. Because God is love, He had a plan to deal with the situation and redeem us. This plan came to earth and was fulfilled through Jesus Christ on the cross. God through Jesus took the punishment of every sin, past, present, future on Himself, bearing the pain of sin, the pain of separation from God and the pain of death in our place. He then came back to life 3 days later, rising out of the grave in a glorified, renewed body proving that the sacrifice has been accepted by God. Jesus said He was the first fruits of resurrection and offered two promises to all who trust in Him. The first was a promise of a resurrected spirit, through the Holy Spirit who dwells inside us. The second was a promise of a resurrected body just like His.
1 Corinthians 15:20
But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Now with the Messiah's sacrifice, we are offered redemption and resurrection of both body and spirit. Although our old spirit was dead in sin, when we trust in Jesus Christ as Savior, we receive a new spirit, the Holy Spirit which gives us eternal life.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is immediate. The moment we accept Jesus Christ as Savior, His spirit enters us and our relationship with father God is restored.
But the promise of a new body is not immediate. We become an eternal spirit dwelling inside a sinful, mortal body. (Which as Paul discusses in the book of Romans, causes great internal conflicts.)
The promise of a new body is one of the great Hopes that Christians have. (If it's not, it certainly should be.) But the mystery of the promise leads many people to confusion and even causes some to deify themselves. This leads me to the heart of my article, where I want to deal with some well known errors in the ideology of many Christians.

There is an enormous difference between "becoming like God" and "becoming God."
"Becoming like God" implies taking on characteristics of God. We read our Bibles daily, we pray daily and we grow in the knowledge of God which allows us to make decisions in daily life which would resemble decisions God would want us to make. God is love, so we practice loving others to become like Him. God is forgiving, so we practice forgiving others to become more like Him. Though, no matter how good we are at loving people, or how easy it is for us to forgive others, we will never become God.
I clarify this because I have heard many people/pastors/authors teach about the new bodies we are promised, and their descriptions would more accurately fall under the "becoming God" category. Whether this comes from misunderstanding of Gods word or from sinful desires that drive us to want to be equal with God, I do not know, but let me list a few of the common misconceptions.
Some of the claims for our new bodies:

We will no longer eat or drink
We will be able to travel by thinking of a destination
We will know each others thoughts
Our bodies will no longer be restricted to time
We'll be able to appear and disappear (or walk through walls)
We will know everything
Some contend that because flesh is sinful, our new bodies will be made of some ethereal, ghost like substance which will be better suited for a spirit world because after all, heaven is a cloudy, spiritual place.

None of these ideas have any Biblical basis. I would guess their origins stem from satanic lies that are used to deceive us into thinking that our bodies are sinful in and of there own and we need to transcend them to some higher plane of existence. Simply non-sense!
Sin stems from our disobedience to God. Our bodies are cursed with sin as a result of our rebellion. Gods idea of resurrection and redemption are based on restoring us to His original plan for us in the garden.

Will we eat or drink in our new bodies? Of course we will! God designed us to eat and drink
Genesis 2:9
And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.
Genesis 2:16
And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;...

Additional proof that we will eat and drink is found in the book of Revelation. In it we find out that God is preparing a feast, the wedding supper, which will take place when the church is finally raptured and joined with Jesus permanently.
Revelation 19:7-9
Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!' " And he added, "These are the true words of God."

When God told Adam he could eat from the trees in the garden (Except for the tree of knowledge of good and evil) sin had not entered the world. Therefore everything was still good. This means God designed us to eat and drink. He designed our bodies to digest food and take in nutrients for fuel and energy. The need for food did not arise as a punishment from sin. Although it is quite possible that our bodies ability to process food has diminished due to sin. I expect that our new bodies will be fully capable of eating and drinking and probably much better at extracting all the nutrients we need.

Two of the ideas on my list are closely related. Traveling by thought, appearing and disappearing at will and walking through walls. These ideas were probably started by a single event.
Luke 24:36-37
While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."
They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.
John 20:26
Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you."
Here in these verses, Jesus apparently walks through a locked door and immediately appears right in the midst of the disciples. Now some would use this as proof that we will be able to do the same. I however do not expect us to have this ability. Remember, Jesus is God. We must keep this instance in that frame of reference. This event, in all likelihood is an example of God exercising his deity and omnipresence. Would it be impossible for God to give us this ability? Certainly not, just highly unlikely.

What about the notion that we will know each others thoughts? My answer to this is simple.
1 Corinthians 2:11
For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.
Psalm 139:1-3
O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Only God knows our thoughts and our heart. This is an ability specific to God alone. We were never designed to read each others minds and I am doubtful we will ever be given this ability.
We were however given many creative outlets to communicate with each other. Through body language, facial expressions, physical contact, speech, writing, drawing, painting. Imagine how dull these abilities would be if everyone knew every bodies thoughts or could read everybody else's mind.

Will we know everything?
There are two things we need to take into account to answer this question.
1. God is an infinite being.
2. Humans are finite beings.
It is simply impossible for a finite being to know everything.
It would be like trying to cram all the worlds oceans into a 10 gallon fish aquarium.
Will we know more than we do now? Most likely.
1 Corinthians 13:12
Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
God has designed us to learn and grow. Our capacity for knowledge will always have a cap, we have finite minds and are incapable of knowing an infinite amount of knowledge.
This is a character trait unique to God that we refer to as being Omniscient.
We will never know everything but put into perspective, who would want to?
For man to possess one deity quality of God, would require him to possess all deity qualities of God.
That's a burden no one but God can carry.

Will our bodies always be restricted to time?
I believe this theory comes from a King James Version translation of a verse in revelation.
Revelation 10:6
And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
The end of this verse reads "There should be time no longer."
Some read this and assume it means God is going to do away with time.
A proper translation of this verse however would actually say:
And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, "There will be no more delay!
There shall be no more delay!
If one stops to consider what time is, you would realize that we cannot live outside of time.
Again that is an attribute of God that is unique to Him, Omnipresence. It's a tough concept for us to grasp with our finite minds, but God is not chained in the present. He exists in the past, present and future, not only that but also completely outside of time. That is something that perhaps we will never understand but we know this:
Revelation 22:13
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the
End.
Time is simply the measurement of cause and effect.
To make a decision requires time. To act requires time. To breathe requires time.
To remove time would be to remove cause and effect. There is no Biblical evidence that God ever plans to remove cause and effect.
Time is not a curse. It only seems like one because it's not currently on our side.
But when we enter Eternity with our new glorified bodies, we will no longer have to worry about death and we will have an abundance of time. So we will always exist in time, but one day we will realize what a blessing it is.

Lastly I have heard people contend that one day we will shed these human suits. They claim that the flesh is sinful and our new bodies will be purely spirit bodies. But consider the creation account. How did God design us?
Genesis 2:7
the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
God created us as a combined physical-spiritual being. He took the dust from the ground, which represents our physical body and he breathed into it His breath, which represents our spirit. After He was done creating He saw that everything was good. If the flesh is sinful then God certainly could not have truthfully declared everything to be good. No, it is not our flesh that is sinful, but our disobedience.
Some may contend "but we are born with a sin nature, so it is our flesh!" However it was not Adams flesh that made him sin, but it was his disobedience that gave him (and all his children) a sin nature.
My second arguement against a purely spiritual body comes from Jesus' resurrection. He was the first fruits; the model body for all our future glorified bodies. This is what Jesus said about His new body.
Luke 24:39
Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."
Jesus resurrected with flesh and bones just like we will.

Now that I have hopefully dispelled some of the common myths about our promised resurrected bodies, lets take a brief look at what the Bible does say about our future glorified selves.

1 Corinthians 15:52
in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

We will be raised imperishable. Definition: Not subject to decay; Enduring forever.
We will be raised no longer subject to decay, and we will endure forever.

1 John 3:2-3
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

Although there are certainly some things we can know now about our future by examining Gods pre-fall design for us, there is still a mystery about what we will become.
We know that when we see Him appear, we will become like Him. (We will not become Him.)
How will we be like Him? We will be perfect in His character.
Perfect Love, Perfect Justice, Perfect Mercy, Perfect Forgiveness, Perfect Purity.
We will all maintain our own uniqueness. We will all be united.
Best of all, sin will abound no more, while death and hell will be cast into the lake of fire.
So purify yourself, just as He is pure.
I certainly look forward to eternity with God in my new body.

Our Restless Desire

God made us this way. He made us to yearn - to always be hungry for something we can't get, to always be missing something we can't find, to always be disappointed with what we receive, to always have an insatiable emptiness that no thing can fill and an untamable restlessness that no discovery can still. -- Mark Buchanan

I just read this quote in a book called "Things Unseen" by Mark Buchanan.
It really stuck out to me and I wanted to stop and reflect on it.
This quote reminds me of the Plumb song "God-shaped hole".
We all have a void in us that only God can fill.
We all have a thirst that only God can quench.

I understand this yearning very deeply. I have recognized it in my life for years now.
Yet like many people I have tried to appease my hunger, my desire, my emptiness with worldly things, and like many people I have found that it would be easier to take a shovel to the grand canyon, and completely fill the canyon with dirt, than it would be to fill these voids in my life apart from God.
I need God. I desire God. God designed me to need Him.

This deep longing in our souls stems from our seperation from God. Sin punches holes in our soul and builds a barrier between us and God. So as long as we are in these fallen bodies and as long as we live in this fallen world, we will be a slave to this restless desire.

Thankfully, one day we will be redeemed. One day we will be restored.
Jesus has already paid the price on the cross, in our place, dying so that He could give us eternal life and rising again 3 days later, as the first fruits, to prove the debt was paid.
Now we wait, with a restless desire for our Blessed Hope, our Lord, our King.
We wait for Him to bring us back into the presence of God, where our thirst will be quenched, where our longing will be filled. We will no longer be nomads wandering a foreign land but we will be at rest, at home, in the house of our God.

In Gods presence

"Better is one day in your courts, than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of the wicked."
Psalm 84:10

We all experience mountains and valleys in this life.
My hope in this life comes from knowing that one day I will stand in the presence of God.
Job describes it like this:
"And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!"
Job 19:26-27

One day my God is going to either rapture me or resurrect me, and in my flesh I will see God.
It will be me, with my own eyes. I will stand in His courts and I will praise Him.
Being in His presence will dwarf any mountain top experience I may have had in this life.

"For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
Revelation 7:17

One day God is going to wipe the tears from my eyes. No longer will I experience any valleys in this life, for God will lift me up to His holy mountain so that I may worship at His feet.

I truly look forward to the day that God blesses me with the privilege to see His face.
I anticipate the day when my Lord, Jesus Christ gathers His church together and takes us to His Fathers house. I picture millions of believers gathered before His throne, all overtaken by the Holy Spirit, burning within us a flood of unity, all of us shouting and singing praises to Him, while His face blazes down upon us with the light of a billion suns.

I should mention, that I certainly don't believe heaven is just an eternity long church service, where everyone sings hymns and then listens to Jesus preach in a non-stop cycle.
Being in Gods presence will be an intense, unforgettable, indescribable and joyful experience that we will never want to end (and it never will.)
Worshipping God comes in many more forms than singing. Worship, in my opinion is simply doing what God designed us to do. The simplest way to worship God, is to obey Him.

One day I will join the many who have already been called into His presence, and that will be the happiest day of my life.

Defending God

Today at work I was sitting in the break room. One of the servers and one of the cooks walked in about the same time and sat down with me. The server started counting her money and pulled out a track pamphlet that apparently was left with one of her tips. The paper talked about Jesus and the way to salvation. The cook took the pamphlet and started making fun of it and Jesus. The server took it back and told him to shut up before he offends someone and I'm pretty sure she looked in my direction. The cook then said a few expletives, looked at me and said loudly "Only retards think that Santa, the Easter bunny and God exist".
I just smiled at him and kept quiet. I am normally a quiet guy because I learned a very wise proverb many years ago.
"Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue."
Proverbs 17:28
I've been conflicted since on whether I should have spoken up. Should I have said something? Anything? On the fact that God does exist?
I know that God does not need me to defend Him. But perhaps I could have planted a God seed in this man who apparently does not believe He exists. Did I miss an opportunity?

I've learned there is no point in debating against non-believers. It ALWAYS turns into an argument. It's also fruitless to debate because neither side will give up their position.
A christian is not going to persuade a non-christian and a non-christian will not persuade a christian to switch teams. (If a person did choose to no longer believe simply because of a debate with a non-believer, I would question whether that person was a true believer to begin with.)

I am a firm believer that all adults are entitled to their own beliefs, whatever it may be and no matter how silly or ridiculous I may think it is. We were all given the ability and freedom to choose whether or not to believe in God; I choose to believe but this man I encountered obviously does not, and thats fine. But should I have said something?
1 Peter 3:15-16
"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander."

I know we are to be prepared to answer honest questions from seekers who ask us to tell them about our Hope. However what type of response are we to have in the presence of people who openly mock God and Jesus to us?
Luke 6:27
"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you..."

Jesus says that I am to love even my enemy, so whether I consider this person an enemy or not, certainly I am called to love him. Loving him requires speaking to him with gentleness and kindness but also speaking in truth.
Now the dillema is, which is more damaging, staying silent while he mocks God? or speaking up and fueling an argument that could potentially push him further from God?
Perhaps my silence prevented a seed from being planted inside his hardened heart. A seed that one day could have sprouted into enough faith to come to Jesus.
But perhaps if I had spoken up this person would have interpretred it as an invitation to debate and as i've learned in the past, debating simply causes people to become more stubborn. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems when you debte someone, it hardens your heart and closes your mind on the issue you are defending. Perhaps that is just the way we were designed?

I pray God will give me the wisdom to decide whether to stay silent in the future or whether to stand for Him and speak with the fire of the Holy Spirit.

Choose Jesus Christ

"...Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." 2 Corinthians 6:2

We only get 1 life, we only get 1 chance and not a single person on the planet knows how long their life, their chance will last. Make a decision to accept Jesus Christ as your savior today because now is the accepted time and now is the day of salvation!

Recently a very famous comedian named George Carlin died.

Carlin was a public atheist and made his disgust for God and religion well known (building a majority of his comedy routines around God mockery)

Unless there was a last minute repentance that I don't know about, (which is doubtful considering he died of unexpected heart failure) George Carlin died while rejecting Jesus Christ.

My heart grieves for George Carlin because the Bible is clear about the fate of those who do not accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. George Carlin has passed on into eternity and barring the last minute acceptance of Jesus, he has entered the place of the dead, eternal seperation from God. But it's not just George Carlin; Everyday thousands, maybe even tens of thousands die and enter eternity completely lost and become eternally seperated from God.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it." Matthew 7:13

Most of the world is travelling through the wide gate.

"But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Matthew 7:14

Jesus is the narrow gate. He is the only pathway to eternal life.

The world however offers a broad road and a wide gate. Many people travel this broad road, convincing others that it must be the right way to go, however in the end it leads to destruction.

Few people will find the narrow gate.

"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

I want to make it my priority to live a life that proclaims "Jesus is Lord"

It is my desire to be the type of person who radiates Gods love.

I want to teach others that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation.

Jesus Christ is Truely the Way to salvation and without Him you can't have eternal Life.
Accept Him as your Savior today! You may die before tomorrow ever comes.

The Last Generation

I truly believe we are currently living in the last generation.
We are the generation that will be alive to witness the return of Jesus Christ to earth to set up His Kingdom!
The signs are all around us: Wars, Rumors of Wars, Famines, Pestilence, Signs in the Sun, Moon and Stars, the Seas Roaring with Great Perplexity, Great Earthquakes all over the Earth.

Mark 13:29 - Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door.

Luke 21:28 - When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."

Another thing that gives us a good indication we are in the Last Generation is in 2nd Peter

2 Peter 3:3-4 - First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation."

I think that verse applies quite well to the view that many people in the world have today.
They mock Christians and they mock Jesus' claim to return to earth. But he definitley will return to earth! First to call His church out of the earth and then He will physically return to the earth and set up His Kingdom!
What a glorious day that will be!!

John 20:29 - Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

For 2000 years, we have not seen Jesus' physical body. No person alive witnessed the crucifixion or watched as Jesus ascended into the Heavens in His cloud of glory.
However Jesus himself issued a blessing to all who believe in Him even though they have not yet seen Him with their eyes, or heard Him with their ears, or touched Him with their hands. "blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed"

Thankfully His physical absence is not permanent. Although He is with us always in the form of His comforter the Holy Spirit, He will one day return to the earth Physically and set up His Kingdom. He will overthrow the governments of this world, He will take back His creation and He will appoint Himself King and reign forever!

A New Name

A New Name

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.

One of the most exciting rewards that Christians receive when Jesus calls us out of this world is a new name. Don’t get me wrong, I am proud of my birth name, the name that my parents put time and effort into choosing for me but to have a new name thought up by my very creator really excites me. Imagine the joy of receiving a white stone personally engraved from King Jesus. Imagine the honor one would experience when the God of all the Heavens and the Earth takes the time to choose a new name for His children; a name that only He and the recipient will know.
In fact this is not a new experience, it has happened before, through out the old and new testaments.

God changed Abrams name to Abraham

-- Genesis 17:5
No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.

Jacobs name to Israel

-- Genesis 32:28
Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."

Simons name to Peter

-- Matthew 16:18
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

God has redeemed us through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. Now all who come to Him are made a new creation and as a new creation God will choose a new name for each and every one of us.
I couldn’t even begin to speculate what my new name will be, but considering that God has numbered every single hair on my head and that He knows the very deepest secrets and desires of my heart, the name He presents to me will be well thought out and full of meaning.

He counts the stars and names each one.

Just as God has taken the time to count and name every single star in the universe, He will take the time to give each of His children a new name that only He and His child know. Presented on a white stone, this will be a holy and intimate moment. I won’t know your new name and you won’t know mine. This name is specially given so that only the receiver and God will know their new name. The name will be used as a special bond between God and His redeemed.

Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.

Not only will we receive new names, we will also be made pillars in Gods temple. That is to say, we will become a permanent part of it. Just like the founding fathers of the United States are inseparable from the history and foundations of America, the Redeemed Church will be made pillars in the temple of God. The temple and New Jerusalem will be a part of the Redeemed and the Redeemed a part of the temple and New Jerusalem. Never will they be separated.

We also read at the end of verse 12, that God also will have a new name in addition to ours. Our names will be written on a white stone, while Gods new name will be written on us!
This is a possessive statement, letting the redeemed know that we will forever belong to Him! His very name will be written upon us for all to see that we are His!

It’s very humbling to realize that one day the Master of all the galaxies will rename us each individually and will also teach us His new name, permanently branding us with it.
I truly look forward to the day where I see my Kings face and He will see mine. I desire the day when I can call out His new name and hear Him call out mine.
Keep looking up, Church! We belong to God forever and one day soon we will be in His presence as new creations, as permanent pillars with new names and we will never again be removed from His temple.

Moon-Quake

I looked up at the night sky and the moon was shaking vigorously. It was as if God himself grabbed ahold of it with both hands and shook it. I stood and watched in awe.
Of course, this was just a dream that I had last night; but it got me thinking about God's power and the wrath he is going to unleash on the unbelieving world during the tribulation.
In the rest of my dream after seeing the Moon-Quake, I began warning everyone that we were near the very end. Some laughed at me, others tried to make me look like a lunatic and a liar, but some believed.

Keep watching people, Jesus is coming soon!

Rosh Hashanah

We are 2 days away from Rosh Hashanah.

This year's Rosh Hashanah also happens to begin the Sabbatical year.

I do not know God's timetable for future events. But I do know that God seems to fulfill major prophecies as they correspond with yearly feasts.
Such as the Crucifixion on Passover and the pouring out of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.

Rosh Hashanah is the Feast of Trumpets. Like I said, I have no idea when God plans to do what, but with everything that is going on in the world, all I can say is Look Up!
Jesus is coming very very soon!
Repent, Live for God, and Spread the Word!
Tell all your friends and family about Jesus and how He died for us!
Time is running extremely short and there may not be much left.
It's incredibly important. Nothing else matters when it comes to knowing the truth about Jesus' death on the cross. He died for us, in our place so that we could be forgiven and have eternal life.
He chose to do it. He provided us with a way out, because we are otherwise doomed to death and eternal seperation from Him due to our sin.
The only way we can be saved is to come to God through Jesus Christ and His shed blood.
If you believe that Jesus died for you, ask for His forgiveness, turn from your sin and live for Him.
He is the King! He is Lord! and He is coming again!
Are you ready to meet Him?

Letter to God

Lord I dream about you,
Day and night I see you, standing on the clouds, calling your people home.
I breathe your promises for a better tomorrow.
The hope of a new world spent with you, keeps me alive.

My God, I want to know you more. I want to know you intimately.
I want you to search me God and form me into the man, you want me to be.
You will be my King forever.

Jesus I imagine us being best friends. Walking and talking together.
You'll take me on adventures throughout the universe. We'll do everything together!
Building a fort in the woods, running through tall grassy fields, watching animals as they play in the wild, sitting in the shade beneath a tree and staring at the sky enjoying each others company. I know that i'm safe with you.
Not a day goes by, that I don't think about you. I always wonder if today will be the day that I get to meet you face to face. yet i'm nervous! I've known of you my entire life, and now I spend my time trying to get to know You as much as possible, but I still have never met you face to face. What will it be like? How speechless will I be? How long will I be fallen at your feet in awe and in fear? You are the Almighty God, the Most Powerful, The Most High, Creator of all things.
Thats intimidating to me God. The size of the earth alone can make me feel insignificant, how much smaller will I feel standing in front of the One who rules the universe?
None the less, I know how much you love me. That you died for me, so we could have a relationship. Even though I am in awe of your Great Power, I know that you do not want to harm me. I look forward to my future with you. My hope is in you. You are my Strong Tower.
You are my Protective Fortress. You are my Savior and my King.
I will run to you.

Do not Judge... ?

The massively gross twisting and misinterpretation of Matthew 7:1 has utterly destroyed my generation.

""Do not judge, or you too will be judged." Matthew 7:1

If only I had a dollar for everytime that verse has been quoted to me.

Is Jesus really telling us that His followers are not supposed to judge right and wrong? Is He saying that we need to accept everyones point of view and tolerate an individuals beliefs, no matter how different or how askew they are from our Lords teachings of Truth?
Is Jesus really permitting people to think that "Whats true for you, is not true for me"?

The answer is a huge, HECK NO! Jesus is not telling us to tolerate other peoples beliefs at all!
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me...."
John 14:6

Jesus didn't give us multiple options. He didn't tell us to pick the one that suits us best. He didn't merely suggest a few ways you could get to heaven.
Jesus said that He is the only way, He is the only truth, and without Him, no man can have life!
In light of knowing the Truth, does it sound like we should tolerate or accept the false teachings of this world? No, not at all. If you held the cure to a deadly disease, would you share it with the world or would you continue to let them hope in their placebos?

What was Jesus talking about then, in Matthew 7:1 where he told us not to Judge?
Perhaps it would make more sense to you if it was said this way...
"Do not condemn or you too will be condemned"
Jesus was not telling us to permit sin or to be tolerant of all belief systems. He was issuing a warning against having a spirit of superiority, and judging the motives of a persons heart or their eternal destiny.
God alone knows the motives of the heart and God alone decides peoples eternal destiny.

Standing up for the truth however, and calling people out when they are not teaching the truth are certainly NOT prohibited by Jesus. In fact He spent His entire ministry teaching the truth and calling people out of their sinful lifestyle. If we call ourselves Christians, we should be following His example, afterall, He is our Master and Teacher.

Gods people are called to a higher standard. If we want to follow Jesus, He commands us to turn from our former lifestyle and sin no more. He calls us to Love what is right and to despise what is wrong. To be able to love right and hate wrong, requires there to be a defined right and wrong. It requires a line to be drawn in the sand. There is black and there is white.
The world wants to blur the line in the sand. The world wants to create many shades of grey. And the world has been very successful at erasing the line and blurring the truth by quoting the "Do not Judge" verse out of context.

"Do not Judge" seems to be the coverall verse to many people. It allows them to justify their lifestyle and live in any manner they please. Anyone who opposes their way of life, their belief system, or their sin is simply judging them.
Somehow they seem to think that "Judge Not" justifies there belief that truth is relative. They think "whats true for you is not true for me." That logic is severely flawed though.
Two cars can never occupy the same parking spot at the same time. Just as two opposites cannot both be true.
Wake up people!! Christians need to forget about the definition of "Do not Judge" as the world has defined it. We need to be standing up for the Truth. Standing for a definite right and wrong!

Remember, the same Jesus who said "Do not judge or you too will be judged." also said...

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye...."
Matthew 7:3-5

We all deal with problems and struggles. None of us are perfect. But Jesus says, Don't be a hypocrite! Get your own problem under control before you try helping somebody else with their problem. Once you remove the log from your eye, then you'll be qualified to help your neighbor remove the speck of dirt from his eye.

An active alcohalic has no right to help other alcohalics with their problem, he needs help himself. But a recovered alcohalic will have the wisdom to encourage and counsel those who still need help. He's been where they are and he knows what they are going through.

Before you call somebody out of their lifestyle of sin, make sure you've turned from your own lifestyle of sin, or you'll become a hypocrite.

Judge right and wrong, and do what is right. But you do not have the authority to set what is right and what is wrong. God has already defined that. Stop rebelling against God, stop telling Him that His ways don't work for you, that you need something else to be true for you, because there is no other Truth. There is no other Way. Accept Jesus' death on the cross as payment for the price of your sin; or perish. It's the only offer on the table, take it or leave it, but if you leave it, shut your mouth and quit complaining because God provided a way and you rejected it.

Are you watching for Him?

"So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation." Hebrews 9:28

Are you watching for Jesus? He is coming soon, and if you're not waiting for Him, it's likely He's not coming for you!

The Rapture is an awesome event, coming soon, spoken of clearly in the Bible.
It is un-deniable that the Word of God speaks of this future "catching away" of believers in Christ. However there is much debate over when the Rapture will happen as it relates to Bible prophecy. I want to make it clear that I DO NOT KNOW THE DAY OR HOUR. Nobody does. However Jesus clearly tells us we can know when the time is near. Just as we discern the seasons by the weather, we can tell when Jesus' return is near by the signs He gave to us.
Even so, I'm refering to the placement of the Rapture as it pertains to being Pre, Mid, or Post Tribulational.
I strongly believe the Rapture is Pre-Tribulational, meaning it will happen before the Tribulation starts. Let me present you with some reasons as to why I'm convinced of this.

Reason 1. The Known Day and The Unkown Day

The Bible clearly talks about a day we can know and a day we cannot know.
Matthew 25:13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour."
Yet.....
Revelation 12:6 "The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days."
At the end of the 1,260 days (which begin at the midpoint of the tribulation with the Abomination of Desolation) Jesus Christ returns to earth physically with His Bride (the Church) and the armies of Heaven, and He destroys the Anti-Christ.
Counting 1,260 (3 1/2 years) days from the abomination of desolation a person could easily calculate the day when Christ will return.
Now obviously the known day and the unknown day must happen at two seperate times, making them two seperate events.

Reason 2. Kept From the Hour of Testing

Revelation 3:10 "Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth."
Some people inaccurately suggest that "keep" means to "keep through" or that you will be protected during the Tribulation.
Kent Crockett the author of "16 Proofs of a Pre-Tribulation Rapture" says:
"Suppose you approach a high voltage area with a sign that says, "Keep Out." Does that mean you can enter and be protected? No, it means you are forbidden from entering the area. But this verse also says He will keep us from the hour of testing. It is not just the testing, but the time period. If a student is excused from a test, he still may have to sit in the class while others take the test. But if he is excused from the hour of testing, he can go home. The Church will be called home before the hour of testing."

Reason 3. The Wicked and The Righteous Can't Both Be Taken First

1 Thessalonians 4:13 "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever."

Yet....

Matthew 13:30, 49 "Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn..... This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous."

1 Thessalonians Describes the Rapture, which happens before the Tribulation starts.
Matthew 13 is refering to the Second Coming, where Jesus physically returns to earth and the wicked are taken and thrown into the lake of fire while those who survive the tribulation and accept Jesus get to live in the Millenial Kingdom.

Reason 4. The Seperation of The Sheep and The Goats

Kent Crockett states "If the rapture occurred at the second coming, why would the sheep and the goats need to be separated immediately after the second coming? A rapture at the second coming would have already separated the sheep and the goats. With a Pre-Tribulation rapture, the people saved after the rapture will need to be separated after the second coming."

Reason 5. I go to Prepare a Place For You

John 14:2-3 "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."

Jesus makes us a promise, that He is preparing a place for us and will one day come back to earth and receive us and take us to this place He has prepared.
At the Second Coming, Jesus comes back to earth and stays on earth to set up His Millenial Kingdom.
At the Rapture Jesus comes on the clouds to receive us to Him and take us to the place He prepared for us.
If the Rapture occured at the same time as the Second Coming, we would go up to the clouds and come right back down to earth, contradicting John 14:2-3.
There must be a pre-tribulation Rapture, or it would break His promise to receive us unto Him.

I believe those are 5 Solid Proofs of a Pre-Tribulational Rapture.

A Rebellious World

Jesus is the Everlasting God; He will outlast any accusation brought against Him. He will outlive any atheist, any pagan, and any rebellious soul this world can offer up. He is the beginning and the end of all things. He is the only way to Eternal Life.

I am glad to say, that you cannot be saved by the koran, or anything islam has to offer. You cannot be saved through meditation, searching for inner peace or anything else discovered in buddhism. You cannot be saved be reaching nirvana. You cannot be saved by casting spells. You cannot be saved by becoming one with nature. You cannot be saved by following the ten commandments. There is no drug, operation, or any medical procedure that can save you! It is the shed blood of Jesus, and Him alone that saves you! He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Nobody comes to the Father except through Him.

Do you not like what I am saying?

"Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ."

Galatians 1:10

If you are offended by the Truth, I do not care.

There is no "Every religion leads to God." "Whatever makes you happy is right for you."

Those are the two most damaging thought processes anyone could have. Truth is not relative. Truth does not change from person to person. Truth does not expand or contract. Truth is absolute! There is only one true God, and His name is Jehovah, the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Imagine for a moment, if all religions did lead to the same place. Why would the belief systems not reflect that? Why would the religions be so terribly contradicting? If allah was God, why would muslims be encouraged to kill Jews and Christians? The very people God claims to love. Christians are the bride of Christ. If allah and God were the same, why would he command one group of people, in one book, to kill another group of people from his other book?

No, allah is not God. allah is a false god. an idol. Islam does not lead to heaven, but separates people from knowing the true God, Jesus Christ.

Now what about the notion that "whatever makes you happy is right for you?" Imagine for a moment, that getting drunk every night, sleeping with multiple prostitutes and doing drugs all make me happy. And imagine that I spend a large part of my life, drinking, having sex and getting high. As time goes on, I find out I have liver disease. My friends have left me because I’m angry when I drink. I have herpes, syphilis and HIV because I didn't protect myself during the random sex with hookers. My memory is terrible, I have frequent nosebleeds, and I sell all my stuff because I need money for crack. "But it makes me happy!" I contend. This life that I thought was good for me, because it made me happy, leaves me broken, sick, poor and alone. That is how damaging that thought process is. Just because it makes you happy, does not make it ok. Just because something makes you happy, does not mean it leads to salvation.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
Matthew 7:13-14

The search for happiness, is a broad road. Many people take it. I serve God. My job is to tell the Truth. My job is to stand for the Truth. I am not here, trying to rack up converts, or to put a notch in my belt, or to raise church attendance numbers.

Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John 8:31-32

You will know the truth and the truth will set you free. There is real truth out there. Jesus is that real truth. Others sincerely hold onto false-truths, and they are sincerely wrong.

It is not my job to make you believe. All I need to do is stand up for the truth and God will do the rest. I have told you that Jesus is the King of Kings. He is the Everlasting God. No one can outlive Him, No one can hide from Him, No one can out smart Him. You cannot put God into your own box.

You cannot choose the qualities of God. God is the ruler of this universe, not you. He alone will choose morality. He alone will choose what is and is not acceptable. Homosexuality is wrong! Serving foreign gods, is wrong! Sleeping with multiple partners, cheating on your spouse and having sex before marriage are all wrong!
God says that when a male and female are joined together in sex, they become one flesh! Joining together like that outside of marriage is incredibly damaging to you, I don't care how good it felt at the time.

Cheating on your spouse is incredibly damaging to both people, and any children involved. I don't care how messed up beyond repair you thought the marriage was, it's wrong!

Bowing down to, or serving, or paying homage to any God but Jehovah is wrong! It is a slap in the face to the True King of this world.
He says "You shall have no other gods but Me."

Homosexuality is WRONG!

I do not care how many people these days are telling you that it's ok now. It's not! God says it is detestable that a man should lay with another man as he does a woman. If you notice, the Bible never says it is wrong to have feelings of attraction for the same sex. Homosexuality begins when you choose to act, and have sex with the same gender.

Homosexuality is ALWAYS a choice. A choice that is wrong.

I should point out here (since it has been a common attack on my beliefs) That God does not hate gay people. He hates homosexual behavior. Just as in anything else, God does not hate the individual, but He despises the acts of sin they indulge in.

It is a common reaction for homosexuals to claim that Christianity, or even God Himself discriminates against gays...... God is not discriminating against gays..... gays are choosing to indulge in a behavior that God has forbidden to begin with.

The world is going to continue rejecting God. They are going to continue trying to change Him to be what they want Him to be or to approve of what they want Him to approve of. But I am so thankful that God is an Everlasting God. He will outlast any rebellious homosexual, any flagrant idol worshipper, and anyone else who chooses to reject Him as their Savior. He is coming again, to set up His Kingdom. Where He will set things right and do away with these damaging lifestyles.

He will reign forevermore!

Call upon the Lord

There is only one true God, and He has many names.

He is the Alpha and Omega, The First and Last, The Beginning and the End

He is El Shaddai -- God Almighty! God is all-powerful, there is nothing He cannot do

He is Jehovah -- Lord! and the Lord is Risen!!

He is Jehovah Jireh -- The Lord will Provide! God will take care of you

He is Jehovah Rophe -- The Lord who heals! He will heal your Body, Mind and Soul

He is Jehovah Shalom -- The Lord our Peace! Only God brings true Peace

He is Jehovah Tsidkenu -- The Lord our Rightousness! He brings Justice!

He is Jehovah Rohi -- The Lord our Shepherd! God watches over His children

He is Jehovah Shammah -- The Lord is there! He is Omni-Present, He is everywhere

He is Jehovah Sabaoth -- The Lord of Hosts! God is the commander of the angelic host and the armies of heaven!

Jesus Christ is God. He is the Creator of this world and the King of all that is in it. He has many names but I believe the most important are Savior and Friend.

Sand Dollars

I chose the Sand Dollar setting for my blog. It reminded me of when I was a kid and my grandparents came back from a vacation to Florida with sand dollars they had collected on the beach off the Gulf of Mexico. They told me if you break them open there would be little boney chips shaped like doves. Sure enough, there are.
The Amazingness of Gods creation is astounding. The different varieties of dirt and grass that build our ground. The numerous elements that bond together creating thousands of different minerals; minerals bonding together to create an incredible array of rocks.
Trees, leaves, plants, flowers, vegetables, fruit.
Colors, sights, sounds, smells, tastes.
Emotions, feelings, experiences.
De ja vu, Nostaligia.
The world is an amazing Creation. Not to mention the infinate Universe that has yet to be explored or visited by any mortal human to live on this earth.
I look forward to that in my future with my King, Jesus. I look forward to the adventures that wait for me out there, beyond this life. Tours of the galaxies led by angels, or perhaps even Jesus Himself. Learning all the things that are beyond our atmosphere. Experiencing the joys that this Universe, God created, holds.
